Weekly App Recap (Week 48)

The workweek finally ends. Moving the tired fingers from your coding terminal, you embrace the coming winter, and more importantly, the weekend. And the weekend will be that much more awesome if you kick it off with this app development roundup!

And, to say it right away, it was an amazing week in app development! Let’s dig in:

IoT Impact On App Development

IoT brought a huge change in technology and changed the way developers think of devices for app development. While amazing as a technology, IoT displays multiple issues when it comes to reaching connectivity on various devices. Also, IoT should open app development to turn more towards open source development. Still, the problem of prototyping devices and apps for IoT remains. Anyhow, IoT is one of the trends that will find its rightful place in the app development world.

The Cost Of Newspaper Mobile App

As print media struggles to keep with digital, the newspaper mobile apps are becoming more prominent. But, while building a newspaper mobile app sounds great, the cost of such app development is a bit more problematic to calculate. There are many things to consider when developing a newspaper mobile app, which mostly come to the features you want your app to have. However, it’s important to know that finding a right balance of features, and investing some more resources in it results in a higher ROI.

App Development Risks In Agile Environment

Developing with Agile methodology is all the rage, but as any methodology, it comes with certain flaws. While it’s great for prototyping, as well as finding out how an app works in early stages, it’s the biggest flaw is embedded in the development process. The main issues with Agile development are staff changes, budgets, team productivity, and deadlines. Whether it’s shifting teams, new members are trying to fulfill the roles of predecessors or bad management; it’s important to address these early on for the best app development process.

How Blockchain Benefits App Developers

The blockchain is a technology that is going to stay for a long, long time. And, of course, it found its place in the app development. Blockchain decentralized nature helps the app developers to use data with higher security, and with more efficiency. The Blockchain will help developers to take app development to another level. Above all, blockchain technology will change the industry landscape, and app development can’t stay a single step behind.

How To Build An Augmented Reality App

Augmented reality, another technological advancement, is also going to be huge in the years to come. While unbelievably exotic and fun, AR mobile apps are complicated to develop. Developing an AR app takes resources, a right augmentation tool, and geolocation data. The beauty of AR apps is in that it offers so many possibilities when it comes to the actual augmented material. However, AR mobile apps require an insane amount of work before they are ready for use.

Google And Mozilla Working On Letting Web Apps Edit Files

Google and Mozilla are teaming up to make the editing of browser-based app files easier. The big idea is that they want to reduce time, by not requiring users to download the app files before editing them. However, not all developers find this to be a “great move”. Others warn of possible consequences, which will lead to the abuse of web apps. It will be a whole other thing when this module is ready to use. Until then, developers from both sides of the argument may only speculate.

Alexa Opened To All Bluetooth Headphones Makers

Amazon decided to open Alexa, a voice assistant, to a new class of devices. They released the Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit, which is now available for developers worldwide. From Amazon’s perspective, they wanted to give Alexa more space to make the most out of its many, possible uses. Initially, it opened for brand names such as Bose, Jabra, and Sony, but it’s looking to serve a much larger market. In a nutshell, the Accessory Kit allows the device manufactures to connect with Alexa without building a custom Alexa app.

Mobile Apps Predictions For 2019

And this week is ended by mobile app predictions for 2019. More or less, all predictions are focused around IoT, number of devices, and Angular being in the top of programming languages. However, a lot of users and developers will have to think about how mobile commerce will impact 2019. In the end, there are a lot of things to consider, but the most important thing is to understand how to use them to your advantage.

Anyhow, that’s it for this weekly roundup. Stay tuned for next week when we will share the most important pieces of news about the app development world.
